Candlelight at Komodo Gate: Meruorah Komodo Labuan Bajo Unites Light and Commitment in Earth Hour 2026 Celebration

Meruorah Komodo Labuan Bajo once again demonstrated its commitment to environmental conservation by holding a global Earth Hour action. Located in the Cafe et Lobby area, the five-star hotel invited guests and staff to briefly turn off the lights in public facilities and light candles together as a symbol of caring for the future of the earth.

A Message from Management

Rudy H. Butar-Butar, General Manager of Meruorah Komodo Labuan Bajo, stated that this campaign is part of the hotel’s ongoing responsibility to Labuan Bajo’s unique ecosystem. “Through Earth Hour, Meruorah wants to raise awareness that protecting the earth is our responsibility every day, not just tonight. We want every guest who stays with us to experience a meaningful experience—that by turning off the lights for a moment, we are kindling hope for the future of our environment. This campaign is a reminder that the future of the earth is in our hands,” he said.

A Moment of Togetherness by Candlelight

The solemn event began at 7:30 PM WITA with opening remarks by a hotel representative. While awaiting the main event, guests were invited to enjoy refreshments and a coffee break. The warm atmosphere intensified when one of the staff members recited a poem raising awareness about the importance of preserving nature.

The event culminated when management invited all guests to gather around the main table in the lobby area. The Meruorah team distributed lighters to guests and interactively invited them to light candles on the provided boards. These candles were not just a source of light but a symbol of a shared commitment that small, collective steps can make a big difference for the planet.

One Hour for Earth: Comprehensive Participation

In keeping with the essence of Earth Hour, Meruorah turned off the lights for an entire hour, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM WITA. This blackout covers all public areas of the hotel. In addition to public areas, Meruorah also encourages all guests staying in their rooms to participate in this global movement by turning off the lights in their rooms. This active participation from guests is expected to have a tangible impact on reducing energy consumption during the celebration.

Through this hour of darkness, Meruorah Komodo Labuan Bajo hopes that the message of environmental sustainability will continue to resonate long after the lights are turned back on. This activity is not just an annual ceremony but a reminder that every individual plays a vital role in preserving the natural beauty of Flores and the world at large. By combining candlelight and the sincere commitment of guests and staff, Meruorah emphasizes that the small steps taken together tonight are an investment in a greener and healthier earth for future generations.
