Meruorah Komodo Labuan Bajo Welcomes "December Wonders and Magical Journey": A Fusion of Christmas Traditions and Flores Culture

Welcoming the month of joy, Meruorah Komodo Labuan Bajo marked the start of the year-end holiday season by launching a special program named “December Wonders and Magical Journey” This year’s festive season is designed to bring the warmth of tradition, the richness of Flores culture, and unforgettable moments of togetherness to guests.

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony: Harmony of Culture and Love; The celebrations opened with a solemn Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on December 5, 2025, in the Hotel Lobby area. This magical moment of lighting the Christmas tree was enlivened by a heartfelt collaboration of vocal performances, featuring a choir from the hotel’s in-house staff, sincere vocal performances from the children of the Binongko Orphanage, and a special performance by Gospel Singer, Ms. Angeline Hoseani, adding to the elegance of the evening.

This time, Meruorah presented a unique Christmas tree made of bamboo and wrapped in traditional Flores Songke woven cloth.

The Philosophy of the Bamboo & Songke Tree; Bamboo symbolizes the resilience, flexibility, and sustainability of Flores’ natural environment, which is the foundation of community life. The Songke cloth, with its distinctive motifs, represents the cultural identity, unity, and warm hospitality of the Manggarai people, who embrace each guest like family. This combination symbolizes the hope that the Christmas spirit will remain firmly rooted in local wisdom while continuing to grow and shine upon others.

Ginger House “Bena Traditional House”: Complementing the lobby decor is a replica of a Ginger House, adopting the architectural form of the Bena Traditional House from Ngada. This piece is not simply a sweet treat, but a symbol of “home” as a warm place to return, reflecting Meruorah’s dedication to providing a comfortable second home for tourists in Labuan Bajo.

The Sound of Flores: Enjoy the melodious sounds of the traditional Sasando instrument from Rote Island every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday in the Hotel Lobby, presenting the harmony of Nusa Tenggara traditions.

Christmas Eve & Day Dinner: Celebrate Christmas Eve (December 24) and Christmas Day (December 25) with a special Set Menu featuring fresh, local ingredients at The Bay Restaurant. A Private Family Set Menu is also available for a more intimate setting.

4. New Year’s Celebration:

Masquerade Countdown Party: To close out 2025, Meruorah is hosting a New Year’s Eve Dinner and Masquerade Countdown Party on December 31st. The event begins with a Festive Buffet at Cafe Et Lobby, followed by a countdown party at The Bay Restaurant featuring up-and-coming band Pon Daisy from Maumere, Flores, a live DJ set, a fire dance performance, and an electric fireworks show.
