Sopixology Competition 2025 Showcases Sopi on the World Stage

Meruorah Komodo Labuan Bajo once again presented the Sopixology Competition 2025 as part of the Komodo Waterfront Festival 2025 series of events. This competition, which blends creative mixology with the rich local flavors of Sopi, was held over two days, 18–19 November 2025, and featured international-level flair performances.

On the first day, 18 November 2025, the audition round took place at Café et Lobby, located in the lobby level of Meruorah Komodo Labuan Bajo. A total of 24 top bartenders from West Manggarai took part in a rigorous selection process, representing various hotels, cafés, restaurants, and bars across Labuan Bajo. More than 100 supporters attended, bringing vibrant energy to the competitive and festive auditions.

The grand final was held on 19 November 2025 at The Bay Restaurant, located on the 6th floor of Meruorah Komodo Labuan Bajo. The ten best finalists, along with the defending champion, showcased their expertise in crafting Sopi-based cocktails.

The finalists came from renowned establishments such as Sudamala Resort Komodo, Meruorah Komodo Labuan Bajo, Plataran Komodo Resort & Spa, Taka Bajo, Ta’aktana The Luxury Collection Resort, Le Bajo, Copper Bonnet, Smoke House, and Seaesta. More than 150 spectators filled the venue, offering strong support for the competitors.

After a thorough judging process, the committee officially announced the two main winners of the Sopixology Competition 2025:

• First Place: Deo Kusuma (Meruorah Komodo Labuan Bajo) with a score of 228

• Second Place: Wilfridus Mardiyno (Copper Bonnet) with a score of 199

This year’s competition was made even more special by the presence of two world-class judges. Eka Jager, Top 10 Legend World Flair Bartender, captivated the audience with his speed and precision in cocktail preparation. Meanwhile, Ngurah Udayana, an Indonesian Legend Flair Mixologist, showcased creative drinks infused with local herbs and spices.

They concluded the judging session with a fire flair performance, marking the first world-class flair show ever presented in Labuan Bajo. The Sopixology Competition not only served as a platform for talent, but also played a significant role in promoting Sopi as a distinctive local spirit with strong potential in the international mixology scene.

The Komodo Waterfront Festival 2025 continues until 22 November with a diverse lineup of events, including cultural carnivals, culinary workshops, cultural exhibitions, MSME bazaars, and a grand closing night featuring a modern dance-drama, Komodo Idol 3 Grand Final, fashion show, and live music. Both residents and visitors are invited to experience the full celebration that brings together the cultural, culinary, and entertainment richness of Labuan Bajo.
